From desk job to dream home, Scott, best known to his followers as @scottdiy, documents his renovation journey and is living proof of what’s possible when you decide to give it a go! Scott and his family live in a once-tired 1930s three-bedroom property that they’ve been gradually breathing new life into, with Scott documenting the renovation journey as they go.
Between balancing family life, building a business and squeezing in a round of golf, Scott’s biggest ongoing project has been transforming his home step by step. With every room needing a complete redesign, the property gave them the perfect blank canvas to develop a style of their own. What began as a personal project soon turned into a passion for inspiring everyday DIYers.
“The project was initially born out of necessity, as the house needed a great deal of work. However, we quickly saw an opportunity to transform this tired old property into something really special.”
With a learn-as-you-go approach to DIY, Scott began documenting the project along the way, sharing the wins, the fails and everything in between. What started as a way of recording the transformation of his own home soon grew into @scottdiy.
Ditching the mood boards, inspiration came much more naturally. Scott and his family found themselves drawn to the warmth, texture and character of natural materials, with stone and timber becoming the starting point for the kitchen.
“We didn’t begin with a specific mood board or a rigid design plan. Instead, we found ourselves drawn to the colour and texture of natural materials, particularly stone and timber, and wanted those elements to feature prominently in the kitchen.”
Rather than working to a fixed design plan, the kitchen evolved around those tactile materials and one standout focal piece: the Rangemaster Elise Luxe. Knowing it would sit at the heart of the room, Scott used it to help shape the wider colour palette.
“Much of the colour palette and overall style was chosen to complement the Rangemaster Elise Luxe, which we knew would be at the heart of the room. We wanted every element to work together so that the kitchen felt like one cohesive, thoughtfully designed space.”
When it came to the floor, real stone had always been something Scott wanted to introduce into his home. Looking for a material that would bring warmth, texture and genuine character to the room, he chose our Versailles Menton Limestone Tiles.
“We chose the Menton limestone tiles because we loved their colour, character and natural texture. Having real stone in our home was something we had always wanted, and the tiles helped bring the entire design together.”
