Floor Tile FAQs
How many floor tiles will I need?
Start by measuring the length and width of your space in metres, then multiply the two to get your area in square metres. Our website calculates how many tiles you’ll need, but we always recommend adding around 10% to cover cuts, waste and spares.
Can you put floor tiles on a wall?
It depends on the thickness and weight of the tile, as well as the strength of your wall. Many 9mm thick porcelain floor tiles work just as well on walls, especially if you’re after a continuous look. Just keep in mind to always check your wall can support them and use the right preparation and adhesive.
Are floor tiles slippery?
Not typically, however it really depends on the finish. Polished tiles can be more slippery, especially when wet. For floors in busier spaces like kitchens, bootrooms, or bathrooms, matt or textured finishes offer more grip underfoot.
Are floor tiles waterproof?
Floor tiles are designed to live up to the reality of splashes and spills, however some materials require a little extra protection than others. Porcelain tiles are a manufactured, non-porous material, meaning they're ready to protect against wet areas like bathrooms, utilities, and kitchens. On the other hand, real stone has a naturally porous surface, so resealing it every 18-24 months is recommended to keep stone tiling repellant against moisture.
Are porcelain floor tiles cold?
Although they can feel cooler underfoot than other materials, porcelain tiles are perfect for pairing with underfloor heating. In fact, they hold and conduct heat really well, making them a smart and efficient option for warm and cosy floors.
Are porcelain floor tiles durable?
Yes porcelain is actually one of the toughest tile materials you can choose for your floors. It’s dense, tough against scratches, and shrugs off spills with ease, offering a stress-free option for your home that is up to the challenges of busy areas.
