Cleaning Black Granite Tiles & Quartz Tiles

For day to day cleaning use warm water and a fresh, soft cloth. Avoid unsightly water spots by drying tiles thoroughly with a shami leather.

Where possible use distilled water as opposed to tap water to ensure there is no mineral or chlorine build up.

Clean granite tiles as soon as food or drink is spilled on them. Use a damp cloth, paper towel, or other non-abrasive product to blot the affected area.

Never use abrasive sponges or scrubbers. They can leave faint but permanent scratch marks on your granite tiles. Food and drink left on these scratches will eventually begin to stain them. Be particularly wary of leaving red wine, coffee, soda, or grease stains for too long. All of these can dull the surface of your granite tiles over time.

Always apply a sealer on granite as an extra layer of protection against staining. Sealers are basically an "impregnator" which means that they are a liquid that soaks into natural stone tiles to create a kind of barrier.  Tiles should be sealed to what is known as "Saturation Point". This usually takes two coats. Saturation point is where the tile will accept no more sealer into them ie. no more will soak in; it will just sit on the surface after this point.

Typically your installer will do this for you in the first instance.  If they are any good, they will know exactly how to seal your natural stone tiles properly. Once this has been done, you need to use the right cleaning products as general household cleaners can take the seal out of the tiles over a period of time making them more susceptible to moisture and dirt absorption.  We recommend using the Stonefix Maintenance liquid for cleaning as this will not affect the seal in your tiles.  Its inexpensive and a bottle will last for about a year!
