Travertine forms as calcium carbonate that is deposited from water of natural springs that are saturated with calcium bicarbonate. When pure, travertine is white, however many travertine tiles can have various colour tints in them which result from the variety of different minerals that the tiles contains.
Travertine used to be a key building material for many large structures including the travertine built Coliseum in Rome. Today it is widely used in travertine bathroom tiles, Travertine floor tiles, Travertine wall tiles and Travertine kitchen tiles. Being a very durable stone, travertine tiles can also be used outdoors in travertine patios and garden features.
